Czeslawa Martinez

Czeslawa Martinez, a cherished member of her family and a brave soul who lived through some of history's most challenging times, passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on January 14, 1925, in Poland, Czeslawa’s early life was marked by resilience and courage, especially during her participation in the Warsaw Uprising during World War II, a testament to her strength and unwavering spirit.

 She is survived by her devoted husband, Refugio Martinez, who stood by her side through many seasons of life. Czeslawa was a proud mother to her daughter, Barbara Topete.

Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren: Olivia, Ralph (Allison), Alexander (Lidiya), Emilia, and Maximilian (Breanna). Czeslawa was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, Czeslawa shared a bond with her sisters, Anna Florczyk in Chicago, and Janina Stodulska and Helena Kowal in Poland. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in the United States and Poland, along with numerous relatives in Mexico, all of whom cherished her presence in their lives.

In honor of Czeslawa's remarkable life, friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects and celebrate her memory. Visitation will be held on February 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Acevez Funeral Home Hammond, located at 4404 Cameron Ave, Hammond, IN 46327. A viewing will take place the following day, February 5, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, also at Acevez Funeral Home Hammond. The Mass in her honor will begin at 11:00 AM on February 5 at St. Casimir Church, situated at 4340 Johnson Avenue, Hammond, IN 46327. Following the Mass, Czeslawa will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, IL 60409, at 12:30 PM.
