Donna Wells (nee Gonsiorowski)

Donna Wells (nee Gonsiorowski), age 71, of Hammond, IN unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024. She was a 1970 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. For much of her adult life, she was a housewife and stay-at-home mom with her devoted husband, Jay, of 45 years and her daughter, Krystal. Donna always put family first. 

Donna is survived by her loving daughter Krystal (Daniel) Winsor; granddog, Brown Bear; sisters: Gloria (late George) Whiddon, Valerie Ensign, and Linda (late Steven) Orban; brother, Martin Gonsiorowski; and godson Tony (Beth) Tyrka. She is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

She is preceded in passing by her loving husband, James Wells; parents, Valerian and Eleanor Gonsiorowski; brother, Ronald Austin; nephew, Keith Whiddon; nephew and godson, Christopher Whiddon; and godson, Brian Novak. Donna was an avid reader of the Hammond Times and looked forward to her daily delivery of the paper. She loved animals and thought she might like to become a veterinarian. While Krystal was in school, Donna was always very involved volunteering. 

She avoided most technology, but she loved watching TV and knew how to record her shows. For years she enjoyed watching Guiding Light, As The World Turns, and Dallas. More recently, her favorites included Big Brother, The View, and Hallmark movies. She shared a love of music, just like her husband, and had her favorites such as The Beatles, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers. 

She was an utterly amazing cookie baker. Donna was known most of all for her amazingly generous heart and kindness toward others. She is the true epitome of someone who would give you the shirt off her back. She will definitely be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Friends and family may visit on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Acevez Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN (5 blocks W. of Calumet, 1 block N. of Gostlin) from 2-6 p.m.
