Longtime resident of East Chicago, Dorothy Szczepanski (nee Balon) took her last breath and began her eternal life with the Lord on Thursday Aug. 8th in Fort Wayne, IN in the loving presence of family.

She is now reunited with her husband Edward A. Szczepanski (Aug. 6, 2003).Son, Leonard and loved late daughter-in- law Carol (Budny) Szczepanski.

Beloved Mother of Frank(Candace) of Kihei, HI, Mike(Janie) of Lafayette, Terri(Brian) Lukich of Highland, Ray(Monica) Paradise, CA, Leonard (1957) in Heaven; Tom of East Chicago, Helen(Steve) Rutkowski of St. John, Rose(Charlie) Hillman of Ft. Wayne and Eddie(Cindy) of Highland. Devoted Grandmother of Justin Szczepanski; Brian(Bridget) and Jeff(Selena) Lukich; Tanya(Chris) Savicz, Edward(Ashley), Chris(Cate),Tom, and Mike(Jules) Szczepanski; Christina(Zac) Topoll, Missy(Billy) Doyle, Laurie(Mark) Rutkowski-Nigbur; Adrienne(Nick) Langhals, Charlese Hillman, Bronson Hillman and Austin Hillman; Lauren(Michael) Phillipi and Michael Szczepanski; and Nate and Sophia Hallenbeck.

She was and will be an inspiration to fifteen Great-grandchildren: Lydia and Evelyn Lukich; Leah, Charlotte and Emily Topoll; Lilly and Natalie Doyle; Harrison Ray Rutkowski-Nigbur; Wren and James Szczepanski; Edward A. and Ember A. Szczepanski; Nina, Renee, and Carissa Savicz.

Dorothy had a welcoming and caring heart to family and strangers. She was a long-time member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church as a member of the St. Cecelia Choir, the Rosary Sodality, the Holy Name Society as well as a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 369. She enjoyed baking and making Polish food, especially with her grandchildren.

Dorothy had a peaceful charm about her and attended daily Mass as well as prayed the Rosary for us all. Above all was her devotion to the Lord and her Family.

Visitation Sunday, August 18, from 1 to 4 PM at Acevez Funeral Home 4918 Magoun Ave. in East Chicago.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Aug. 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 808 W. 150th St., East Chicago by Msgr. John Siekierski.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Stanislaus St. Cecilia’s Choir or an act of kindness are preferred.
