Elena Ramírez

Elena Ramirez, age 88 of Hammond, IN passed away surrounded by her family on November 14, 2024.

Elena was born in Morelia Michoacan, Mexico on June 22, 1936 by Agustin De La Torre & Piedad Calderon. She is survived by 3 children: Jose (Maria) Ramirez, Antonio (Ana) Ramirez, Lydia (Luis) Hernandez; 6 grandchildren: Jaime(Katiria) Hernandez, Antonio (Rosemary) Ramirez, Abigail LLerena, Christina Ramirez, Alejandro Ramirez and Vanessa Ramirez; 4 great-grandchildren: Adrian and Alexander Hernandez Rodriguez, Cirron Clark Jr. and Vivienne Ramirez; brother Antonio De La Torre; Special Nieces: Alicia Rodriguez, Claudia Rodriguez, and Sandra McGarvey, along with numerous nephews, nieces and extended family in Mexico.

Preceded in death by her husband Jose D. Ramirez, daughter Maria Ramirez Llerena.

 Visitation at the Acevez Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Avenue, Hammond, IN will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm. Rosary by Alicia Rodriguez at 6:00pm.

A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, November 20th at 10am DIRECTLY AT CHURCH with father Diego Florez officiating, a final viewing will be at 9:30 am at church prior to Mass.

 Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.

Elena was a strong and devoted Catholic and was part of the Guadalupanas Group. She spent her final years in Hammond, but was a longtime resident of Gary, East Chicago, Arecibo, Puerto Rico and San Diego, CA. Elena will be remembered for her sense of humor. She will also be remembered for the great dancer she and her husband, Jose, were. Elena loved to watch soccer and volleyball, to do cross-word puzzles and doing her crafts. In her memory, she has made a cross for all in attendance. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
