Esteban P. Martinez

Esteban P. Martinez, age 78, of East Chicago, Indiana passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022. 

Esteban was born on December 9, 1943. 

Esteban worked in the Steel Mills for 35 years. He worked three jobs at one time, during his layoff; as a gas station attendant, a custodian for the East Chicago housing authority, and worked as a janitor for the East Chicago School District. He enjoyed fixing cars, watching boxing, making hand-crafted baskets, dancing, and enjoyed playing with his multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. Esteban was known to be rough around the edges but had a huge heart for his family. 

Esteban is survived by his five children, named in alphabetical order; his daughters Anna M. Wojas (Tony); Bertha Gutierrez (Alex); Cecilia A. Arredondo (Alfredo); Delia N. Mata (Carlos); and only son Esteban Martinez Jr. (Jovanka). His brothers; Abelardo Martinez (Beatriz); Reymundo Martinez (Hope); Reynaldo Martinez (Juanita) and his sister; Herlinda Soriano (Antonio). Esteban is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. 

Esteban was proceeded in death by his wife of 32 years, Petra (Patsy) Martinez; his parents Esteban and Gerarda Martinez; and his sister Anastacia Miranda (Luis). 

Visitation for Esteban will be held Tuesday, July 19 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 7132 Arizona Avenue Hammond, IN 46323. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7 PM at the church and followed by a beautiful mass for Esteban. 

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons; Christopher Gutierrez, Alfredo Arredondo Jr, Jeremy Arredondo, Esteban Gutierrez, and Carlos Mata Jr. 

Our father will be laid to rest in his birth town Brownsville, Texas near his beloved wife. Services will be held at Chapel of Peace at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 McDavitt Blvd Brownsville, TX 78521.
