Jorge passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart- surrounded by his loving family.
Jorge Antonio Pérez, Sr. (46) has departed from our world, slipping from our grasp on April 20th, 2023 in Hobart, IN, leaving us to mourn his loss, celebrate his life and cherish our memories of him. He was born on October 6th, 1976 in Gary, IN to Epifanio Pérez, Sr. and Luz E. Pérez.
The youngest of seven children. Jorge was a beloved father survived by his son, Jorge Antonio Pérez, Jr., daughters, Iysis Simone Pérez and Paige Nichols and his grandson Samuel Lockett, Jr.
He was survived by his mother, Luz E. Pérez; sisters Luz M. Pérez, Anna M. DeJesus and Teresa E. Pérez and brothers Epifanio Pérez, Jr. and Angel L. Pérez and nephews and nieces: Fred Green, Frances DeJesus, Natividad DeJesus, Kaia Pérez, Nina Robinson, Maria Robinson, Taina Robinson, Khari Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Santiago Thompson, Aliyah Lara and Gabrielle Pérez.
He was predeceased by his father, Epifanio Pérez, Sr. and sister Miriam M. Thompson. His “ride or dies” were Eddieberto Lopez, Derrock Burnett and Raleigh Thompson.
Jorge served as a reservist in the U.S. Army with the 113th Engineer Battalion for 18 years. He was a proud veteran who had immense respect for his fellow servicemen and women. He worked at Union Pacific, initially as a train conductor; eventually becoming a train engineer. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail.
His biggest loves were his son Jorge, Jr. and daughter Iysis. They were truly the apple of his eye and he was very proud of the young adults they were.
Jorge was known for his way with words, especially when it came to poetry and rap lyrics. His words flowed with a rhythm that was all his own, a harmony that echoed through the hearts of all who had the privilege to hear it.
He had a passion for travel and, when he wasn't composing, he took pleasure in the simple pleasures of life, sharing a joke, telling a story with his usual dramatic flourishes and embellishments and sharing a tasty meal—either at a restaurant or one he cooked since he enjoyed cooking—with his family and friends. For anyone in need, he was a friend who could always be counted on. He always had some great recommendations for what to watch on Netflix—especially because he had seen Netflix’s entire catalog!!
Jorge worshipped at Nativity of Our Savior Parish with his mother and sister.
Jorge a/k/a George, Tonio, Pun, Big Pun, Little Big—a man with many nicknames which barely encompassed his big personality—will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that he lived a full life and made a positive impact on those around him.
His second chance at life was the opportunity for him to know just how much he was loved and cherished!!
