Jose P. Hernandez

Jose P. Hernandez~ nicknamed Colega, age 86, of East Chicago, Indiana passed away on August 9th, 2022 at St. Catherine Hospital with his family at his side.

 

Jose passed away peacefully after a decade-long battle with cancer. Jose was born on November 26th, 1935 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico . He immigrated to the United States around 1970.

 

Jose was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He was a strong, hardworking and resilient man who enjoyed being with his family. Jose enjoyed spicy foods, ice cream, and had a special nickname for every member of his family.

 

Jose was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Maria C. Hernandez; and his mother Maria Theresa Delgado. 

 

Jose is survived by his caring sons: Jose (Cecilia) Hernandez; and Humberto Hernandez. His loving grandchildren: Richard Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, Cristina (Angel) Ramirez. Jose is also survived by his sisters; Maria Fuentes, and Guadalupe Ramirez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including; Guadalupe (Roy) Stroman; Diana (Hector) Rodriguez and his entire Fuentes side of the family who loved him dearly. 

 

Jose will be greatly missed by all that had the honor of knowing him throughout his long life. The family of Jose P. Hernandez will be holding a visitation on Friday, August 12th 2022 at Acevez Funeral Home in East Chicago, IN 46312.  Visitation will be from 2pm- 6pm, with a service from 6pm-7pm
