Marcelina Vargas passed away surrounded by her family on February 23rd, 2024. She was born
on April 26th, 1945 to her parents, Margarita and Joseph Leon, in East Chicago, IN. She was 1
of 14 siblings.
She is survived by her 2 brothers John and Robert Leon, and 3 sisters, Theresa Mathis, Alice
Jenkins, and Natalie Allen; her children Margarita Vargas (Viviana Vargas), Arturo Vargas
(Elizabeth Leon-Vargas), Juan Vargas, Ramon Vargas, Lorenzo Vargas, and Jesse Vargas. She
is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In her lifetime, she did many wonderful things.
She not only enjoyed knitting, and baking
Christmas cookies for all her children and grandchildren, but she enjoyed making clothes. As a
matter of fact, she made clothes for Mexican band members at one time, and even owned her
own restaurant called The Rib Crib.
But her greatest accomplishment was the 6 children she
brought into this world.
Marcelina impacted so many lives around her, that only God truly knows how many it actually
was. From giving counsel to those in need of some wisdom and knowledge, to the laughter she
caused so many, and the shirt she would give you right off of her back whether you cared for her
or not, she will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched.
She will especially be missed by
her great grandsons Angel, and her other 3 great grandsons, Numbers 1, 2, and 3. If you knew
her, you’d know exactly who they are.
Marcelina began reading the bible, and even sleeping with it next to her, in her final months on
this earth. On February 9th, Marcelina Vargas gave her life to Jesus and accepted him into her
heart.
The light that shown from her face was evidence that she had encountered the King of
kings and Lord of lords, and she was never the same. Her final days were spent listening to and
tapping her foot and raising her hands to Christian Mariachi songs.
The smile on her face was
genuine peace and joy. She is safe in His Arms.
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive
you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also”. -John 14:2-3
