Mary Brzek

Mary “Maria” (nee Groszek), age 94 of East Chicago, Indiana passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 She is survived by her husband Ludwik Brzek. Daughters Sophia (Gregory) Bembenista of Munster, Ann Brzek of Arlington Heights, IL. Son Ted (Denise) Brzek of Highland. Grandchildren: Steven (Lindsey) Bembenista of Fon Du Lac, WI; Julie (Dale) Norman of Schererville; Kelly Wojnarowski of Arlington Heights, IL. Brittany Brzek of Highland. Great grandchildren include George Bembenista, Janie Bembenista and Jacob Norman. Further survived by brother Adam Groszek of Schererville, sister Teofila Samek of Poland and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at Acevez Funeral Home from

9 -11 am.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 11am from St. Stanislaus Church, East Chicago at 11am with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating.

A private cremation will follow.

Mary Brzek was a longtime resident of East Chicago and a member of St. Stanislaus Church and the Rosary Society. She was a 25 year employee of Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana.

Ludwik and Mary along with their three children immigrated to The United States in 1962 from Poland. With hard work they bought a home in East Chicago, educated their children at St. Stanislaus School and Bishop Noll High School and became American Citizens, living their “American Dream”.

Her family lovingly called her Mary, “Buscia” which means grandma in Polish. Mary loved to garden, was a fabulous cook (made the best pierogi ever) and baked delicious Kolaczki. Mary made many dear friends thru her work at Bishop Noll Institute.

She was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory and smile will always remain in our hearts.
