Victoria Phyllis Klekot, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and joy.
Born on May 30, 1930, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Apolinary and Stella Spejewski, Victoria was the fourth of five children, growing up alongside her siblings Mary, Lottie, Chester, and Stanley. She graduated from Washington High School before beginning her career at Rand McNally and later working as a waitress at Vogel’s.
Victoria’s life changed forever when she met the love of her life, Norbert Richard Klekot, at the Punchkowe Ball, a cherished Polish tradition. They married on September 18, 1954, and spent 62 beautiful years together, side by side, until Norbert’s passing on November 6, 2016.
A devoted wife and mother, Victoria dedicated her life to raising her four daughters: Deborah, Donna, Christina, and Diane. She was the heart of her family, creating a home filled with warmth, love, and tradition. Her family grew to include eight adoring grandchildren—Richard, Alyse, Vicki, Valeri, Britney, Christopher, Clyde III, and Nicole—as well as great-grandchildren Jake, Megan, Steven, Ethan, Drew, Zoey, Talon, and Clyde IV.
Victoria had a passion for music and was a gifted alto singer. She shared her beautiful voice with the St. Cecilia Choir at St. Stanislaus Church, bringing comfort and joy to all who heard her sing. Music was a cornerstone of her life, whether through song or dance. Alongside Norbert, she became a multi-time winner of the Northwestern Polka Dancing Contest, their love for dancing a reflection of the joy they carried together.
Victoria now reunites with her beloved Norbert and those who have gone before her, watching over the generations of family who will forever cherish her memory. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience—qualities that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Schererville, IN. A viewing will take place in the vestibule at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM and a procession to St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hammond for the burial. A luncheon will be held afterward.
