Virginia Rose Michaels, born on August 3, 1930, in Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2025, in the same city where she was born. A beloved matriarch, Virginia's legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and unwavering support for her family and friends.
Virginia, maiden name, Trepinski, was a proud graduate of St. Casimir Grade School and Bishop Noll High School. Throughout her life, she was a source of strength and encouragement, particularly noted for her nurturing spirit. She took great pride in raising her five children—Kathleen (the late Patrick) McBride of Valparaiso, IN; Debra (Paul) Korak of Las Vegas, NV; Daniel Michaels of Hammond, IN; Susan (James) Dust of Schererville, IN; and David (Blondie) Michaels of Lawrence, MI. Virginia's love for her family was evident in all she did, and her proudest accomplishment was the warm and loving home she created for them.
An industrious and creative soul, Virginia delighted in various hobbies including crocheting, sewing, painting on fabric, ceramics, and calligraphy. She dedicated her talents to crafting beautiful ceramics, including for school events, and her generosity extended beyond her family as she often helped her children with folding papers for their paper routes and enjoyed letting her grandchildren paint ceramics alongside her. Her artistic nature was coupled with a deep appreciation for literature, as she was an avid reader who found joy in stories and plays, often sharing delightful lunches with dear friends.
Her contributions extended beyond her family to the community, where she was a dedicated member of various organizations, including the Red Hats, Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Sodality, St. Casimir Funeral Choir, and served as a Girl Scout leader. Virginia fostered connections, forming friendships with many, and always had an open heart and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Virginia's warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her ability to befriend and assist others made her truly special, embodying the spirit of community and care. She is survived by her nine cherished grandchildren: Megan Kennedy, Sean, Keith, Robert McBride, Ashley Kattawar, Alyssa, DJ Michaels, and Amy Jachymiak, as well as her nine great-grandchildren: Donavan, Brogan, Eleanora, Maximus, Kaleb, Keagen, Michael III, Amia, and Jaylnn, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Virginia now joins her beloved husband Richard Michaels, her parents Frank and Marie Trepinski (Zack Bendorfean), and her sister Patricia (Frank) Bachusz (Art Michaels), who have all preceded her in death.
Her legacy of love, creativity, and friendship will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, reminding everyone that true kindness and a generous spirit are traits worth cherishing. Virginia Rose Michaels will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
